The art of being fluid with children’s after school activities

Hi everyone,

Well! As you probably know if you follow my blog, I’m an avid participant in karate along with my 4 kids. Every day or so, they take either Advanced, Sparring or Weapons class. I feel it’s a very vital part of their education; every child should develop the self-confidence that Martial Arts generates.

With that being said, I’m also aware that life is never static. Yesterday, it was a beautiful 66 degrees outside…and so I decided, let’s give ourselves permission to skip karate today, and instead go play at the park.

End result – the kids adored it and I was able to take a nice slow walk and enjoy the afternoon air. It really made me realize how parents cannot be 100% firm all the time regarding after school activities….if the situation arises where children can truly have a blast doing something else, well then, give that to them and tell them to experience it 110%.

‘course, afterwards, I chose to go to karate myself. But hey, as a mom, I can take ownership of that…and give my kids their time for themselves as well. :-)

Enjoy,

Barbara

ps – here are some playground goodies!
